“Ahhhh… my Americana! Ọ́mọ̀ jand!” Stella screamed into the phone “Ekuje meta! E don try ooo”

She just called her friend Dami who relocated from Naija a few months ago.

“Abeg, leave that Americana thing sef, make I sidon first.” Dami replied without much enthusiasm 

“Ah, kilonshe?” This wan you are sounding like this, is everything okay?”

“Farabela, everything fine o. No mind me. I just came back from work, I come taya, na now I go come begin arrange dinner. Make I sidon first.”

“How are tins na?” Stella asked

“My sister we dey oo. My husband is writing first semester exam. Me, I go born for March next year.”

“How is Eni baby? She don start school?

“Eniola is fine ooo. Start school ke?” Hmm! (Eniola is Dami’s daughter).

“Wetin? Na which wan be Hmm?” Stella asked

“ Eniola is only 3 years. She is not school age yet.”

“Eeh…put am for daycare na.” She replied 

“My sister, na where I keep $1500 to be paying for day care each month?”

“Ah! Na so the day care money reach ni?

“Hmm, that’s even on the low side.”

“Eeeeh? Tell me something.”

“So me and my husband come arrange am, im go stay home with Eni in the morning, make I go work small, when I come home, I take over, im go school. That way, we go dey save small small money. We no get money to dey dash for day care.”

“Nawa oo.” Stella replied

“Dey there na. So, by the time my husband dey finish school, I don get some experience with my CNA, go enter nursing school.”

“Hmm, this wan serious oo.”

Dami laughed, "Enough about me, how you dey jare.”

“Fine oo. I go finally write my GRE next month, and submit all these post graduate application, make I come join you na. Me and my family we go just japa!” Stella said with laughter in her voice. 

“E make sense oo.” Wait oo, which visa you dey get? You asked something about visa last time?”

“Oh yes, it’s the student visa na. The F-visa bah?”

“Okay… and you plan to move with your husband na?” 

“Yes of course”

“Okay, shee you know the F-visa doesn’t allow your spouse to work?”

“I don’t understand.” Stella replied

“Your cannot work.” Dami said 

“As in he will be staying home? Doing nothing? Just like that?”

“Haa, please look am well and consider your options so nothing surprises you.

“There’s another student visa, the J-visa, but for that one, there a two year home country stay requirement..”

“Wait oo, this matter is more than I thought. Make I sidon first.”

“Ọ́mọ̀ eh, you see this country wey we dey eh, pesin go dey wise up well well, if not eh, even with all the google map wey full ground, pesin go miss road!”
